Pocono Lake profile

Living in Pocono Lake

Pocono Lake is a very small town located in the state of Pennsylvania. With a population of 4,069 people and two associated neighborhoods, Pocono Lake is the 382nd largest community in Pennsylvania.

Telecommuters are a relatively large percentage of the workforce: 13.71% of people work from home. While this number may seem small overall, as a fraction of the total workforce it is high relative to the nation. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

Another notable thing is that Pocono Lake is a major vacation destination. Much of the town’s population is seasonal: many people own second homes and only live there part-time, during the vacation season. The effect on the local economy is that many of the businesses are dependent on tourist dollars, and may operate only during the high season. As the vacation season ends, Pocono Lake’s population drops significantly, such that year-round residents will notice that the city is a much quieter place to live.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Pocono Lake has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Pocono Lake has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Pocono Lake than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Pocono Lake may be for you.

In Pocono Lake, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 43.40 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average. One bright side is that local public transit is widely used, so it may be an option to avoid the headache of driving in the heavy traffic by leaving the car at home and taking transit.

Despite being a small town, Pocono Lake has a lot of people using the bus to get to and from work every day. Most of these people on the bus are using it to get to good jobs in other cities.

The overall education level of Pocono Lake is somewhat higher than in the average US city of 21.84%: 28.61% of adults 25 and older in the town have at least a bachelor's degree.

The per capita income in Pocono Lake in 2022 was $41,564, which is upper middle income relative to Pennsylvania and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $166,256 for a family of four. However, Pocono Lake contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
