Living in Hernando

Hernando is a somewhat small town located in the state of Florida. With a population of 9,284 people and five associated neighborhoods, Hernando is the 217th largest community in Florida.

Of important note, Hernando is also a town of artists. Hernando has more artists, designers and people working in media than 90% of the communities in America. This concentration of artists helps shape Hernando’s character.

A relatively large number of people in Hernando telecommute to their jobs. Overall, about 12.50% of the workforce works from home. While this may seem like a small number, as a fraction of the total workforce it ranks among the highest in the country. These workers are often telecommuters who work in knowledge-based, white-collar professions. For example, Silicon Valley has large numbers of people who telecommute. Other at-home workers may be self-employed people who operate small businesses out of their homes.

It is a fairly quiet town because there are relatively few of those groups of people who have a tendency to be noisy. (Children, for example, often can't help themselves from being noisy, and being parents ourselves, we know!) Hernando has relatively few families with children living at home, and is quieter because of it. Renters and college students, for their own reasons, can also be noisy. Hernando has few renters and college students. But the biggest reason it is quieter in Hernando than in most places in America, is that there are just simply fewer people living here. If you think trees make good neighbors, Hernando may be for you.

In Hernando, however, the average commute to work is quite long. On average, people spend 32.92 minutes each day getting to work, which is significantly higher than the national average.

As is often the case in a small town, Hernando doesn't have a public transportation system that people use for their commute.

In terms of college education, the citizens of Hernando rank slightly lower than the national average. 14.33% of adults 25 and older in Hernando have a bachelor's degree or advanced degree, while 21.84% of adults have a 4-year degree or higher in the average American community.

The per capita income in Hernando in 2022 was $25,404, which is lower middle income relative to Florida and the nation. This equates to an annual income of $101,616 for a family of four. However, Hernando contains both very wealthy and poor people as well.
